I was always intrigued by how people would express themselves. I would sometimes find students retreating into the shadows of the playground to sing, dance sometime just damage property. I remember always whipping out a sketchbook and scribbling fragments of their personality down, and this manifestation was so satisfying. Its like a memory, you can store it in your mind but sometimes that memory fades, I like the idea of immortalising something, and never letting it fade. To me that was what sketching was.
My realisation of art being my career path has only slowly come to light,I needed to grow as a person
and in turn nurture my artistic growth. At the moment I'm sketching and selling,as well as exhibiting my work.
My inspirations are anything that evokes something organic in me, an emotive revelation! I am such a voyeur it's not funny lol...i sit there watching, in a very un creepy way I can assure you, more so in an appreciative way. I find that drawing the most insignificant things on a person's face can in fact be what makes it a great portrait! It's about the silent features, not only the ones that scream the loudest.
I never really focused on technique, the feel of it was what I thought to be imperative. I now work with graphite and charcoal, water colour and
sometimes dabble in the dry brush technique. I love getting messy in my work, and rarely ever erase.
I think art is a universal language that speaks to everyone, its beauty lies in its subjectivity and I can't wait to share what I see of this world with everyone else and in turn open my eyes to what they see.
